Located near the Naval Observatory in NW Washington, D.C., this residence underwent a significant renovation, transforming from a traditional two-story gabled dwelling to a contemporary structure. Griggs Engineering played a vital role in supporting KUBE Architecture's vision, facilitating the integration of a modern addition at the rear of the building.
A key aspect of the design is the innovative use of steel concealed within the floor cavity. This structural solution allows for the installation of floor-to-ceiling glazing, which envelops the cantilevered additions, creating a striking visual effect of floating above grade.
The collaboration between Griggs Engineering and KUBE Architecture revitalized the property, achieving a harmonious blend of modern design elements. Together, they enhanced the residence, reflecting a commitment to architectural excellence and innovation.
